World War Z (1 of 2)

So after deciding to read a zombie book I wondered how good is this really going to be? I mean its about zombies. Oh no, they've taken over the world! blah, blah, blah. My question was, is this book going to have anything new, exciting, captivating or terrifying about it?

Well, 18 pages in I had my answer. Breaking "The Zombie War" down into 8 segments, World War Z (by Max Brooks), is a compilation of survivor interviews. Each recounts the individual's experiences during the zombie war.

I was pleasantly surprised at how captivating and authentically scary this method of storytelling was. Set in a near-future Earth, these fictional people recollect their experiences so convincingly that, I must confess, I jumped more than once or twice at noises in the night.

This is a definite page-turner and a worthwhile read. My question then became, how the heck are they going to make it into a movie? I located the trailer below which gave me a little insight:

(Paramount Pictures and Plan B)

It appears that they are going the way of the book, interview by interview. I'm going to guess that we'll be following the interviewer around the world and receiving ample flashbacks bringing the survivor's stories to life. We shall see if I'm right soon enough!

While I know this will not be everyone's cup of tea, I recommend to anyone interested in seeing the movie to read the book. It is well worth your time and super eerie!

Here's the official book synopsis:

We survived the zombie apocalypse, but how many of us are still haunted by that terrible time? We have (temporarily?) defeated the living dead, but at what cost? Told in the haunting and riveting voices of the men and women who witnessed the war firsthand, World War Z is the only record of the plague years.
