The Hunger Games (1 of 2)

Although I've heard about The Hunger Games novel (by Suzanne Collins) for the past few years I wasn't really interested in reading it until I saw the trailer for the movie:

(Lionsgate)

After seeing this I HAD to read the book. Little did I know it was a trilogy: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay (by Suzanne Collins). Not knowing if I'd like the series I only bought the first book. After the first chapter I was hooked; I couldn't put it down.

I completed the book in a day and a half. I regret not having bought the second and third book at the same time as the first. Now I have to wait until my next trip to the bookstore. Ahhh!! (and yes, I still go to the actual bookstore)

Needless to say I am now anxiously awaiting the premier of the movie!

While I know this will not be everyone's cup of tea, I recommend to anyone interested in seeing the movie to read the book. It is well worth your time!

Here's the official synopsis:

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Full movie review to follow in the next few weeks!
